Why Sixteen90? It refers to the year of the proclamation of Welmoed Estate, home of Stellenbosch Vineyards.
Winds of change are blowing on Welmoed estate. Not only are we revamping the tasting room and restaurant, but the access road to the cellar is also being rebuilt. We look forward to welcome you to our brand new home in the Spring of 2014.
Our wines are still for sale, however, in the temporary tasting room set up in one of the barrel stores. It may be a bit of a squeeze in the interim, but there are comfy couches waiting for you and our cellar door team is eager to help you find the wine of your choice.
Please note our shortened trading hours during this revamp period.

Abraham's main task is to procure and blend the best possible wines for Stellenbosch Vineyards ranges, including big commercial sellers Arniston Bay and Versus. He's also involved in the barrel selection for the Credo and Stellenbosch Vineyards ranges.
He completed his Hons BSc in Oenology at the University of Stellenbosch and joined the company in 2004.
Abraham is also no stranger to accolades with a Best in Class at the International Wine and Spirits Awards for some of the earlier vintages of the Arniston Bay Chenin Blanc Chardonnay, proving that with careful winemaking, one can achieve excellence in a commercial brand.
"Every wine starts in the vineyards already with the selection of specific blocks. Each wine is tasted and blended so many times to get the right style that I lose count. Wine is as much a science as it is passion and trusting your instinct and your tasting capabilities."

Bernard is responsible for primary production in the Welmoed cellar and oversees the whole winemaking process, from grape intake to bottle-ready wine. He completed his first harvest on Welmoed in 2000 while still a winemaking student at the University of Stellenbosch and joined the company in 2004. Some of his successes include the double gold Veritas stunner, the Credo Chenin Blanc 2010 and the limited release The Flagship Petit Verdot 2010.
His winemaking goal?
"Obviously one wants recognition for the quality of one's work and the way for this is probably to win a few accolades along the way. But honestly I just like to make great wines that always over-deliver and that can be enjoyed by everyone."

Our dream is to be the most admired South African wine business. This dream unites us as a team to make wines of excellent quality in an ethical, entrepreneurial way and to forge long-term sustainable and profitable business partnerships.
We are one of the largest branded product exporters in South Africa, exporting 85% of our products. The company formed in 2004 with the amalgamation of Stellenbosch Vineyards and Vinfruco and traded as the company of wine people until 2012, when the name changed to Stellenbosch Vineyards. Our head office is on Welmoed Estate, the oldest proclaimed farm in the Stellenbosch district with a history stretching back to 1690.We aim to react quickly to a forever evolving market and to be a one-stop South African wine solution to our partners.
We hold memberships to the SA Liquor Bottlers Association (SALBA), Agricultural Ethical Trade Initiative (WIETA) and Wines of SA (WOSA). We are also members of the Industry Association for Responsible Alcohol Use (ARA) and we subscribe to their Code of Commercial Communication.
We are shareholders in Thandi, the first ever Fairtrade wine brand in the world. It also was South Africa's first agricultural Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) project and today it is the country's biggest black-owned exporting wine company. The company is owned by 250 farm worker families who are land owners and who also hold 51% shares in the business. We are also involved in the making of Enaleni, a Social Wine of which funds go back to the Enaleni community to benefit community initiatives in education and healthcare. The Enaleni farm has 23 beneficiaries and owners, all farm workers. Enaleni's Dream is currently sold in Tesco in the United Kingdom.
